Thanksgiving in St Pete/Tampa Florida. Stranded or beach bum?

I will be going to college in St Petersburg Florida and my family and I are trying to figure out what to do for Thanksgiving. I think that I will for sure miss my family and want to see them, but I only get two days off! My family lives in Texas, but we were sort of thinking they could come to Florida and the beach and be with me. If they can't come though, I'll be on my own for thanksgiving. I know I'll probably be with friends etc. But I was wondering I there were any events or shows that would be fun to go see in St Petersburg/Tampa Florida area. Anything ballet or musical theatre is perfect! What do you recommend? Or should I just hang out on the beach the whole time! :) are there any local beaches that are less populated or kept a local secret?
